Hyderabad, India – BJP leader Kishan Reddy has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, for his prompt and decisive response to the concerns raised regarding illegal deforestation at Hyderabad Central University.
Reddy, along with other BJP Telangana MPs, had submitted a representation highlighting the violations, prompting the Union Minister to take immediate action. In a significant move, the minister directed the state government to submit a Fact-Finding Report and initiate legal proceedings against Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) for allegedly violating the Forest Act and disregarding court orders.

According to sources, the deforestation at Hyderabad Central University has raised widespread concerns among environmental activists, students, and local residents. Several reports suggest that large sections of forested land have been cleared without necessary approvals, posing a serious threat to the region’s biodiversity. Experts warn that such illegal activities could lead to severe ecological imbalances, affecting local wildlife and increasing air pollution levels in the city.
Environmentalists have welcomed the Minister’s intervention, stating that strict action is necessary to curb illegal encroachments and deforestation. Many believe that this move will set a precedent for similar cases across the country, ensuring that government agencies and private entities comply with environmental regulations.
Students and faculty members at Hyderabad Central University have also voiced their concerns over the issue, calling for greater transparency and public involvement in decisions affecting the university’s natural surroundings. “The green cover within our campus is an essential part of the ecosystem. Any illegal deforestation not only impacts the environment but also affects the well-being of students and faculty,” said a student representative.
The directive by the Union Minister emphasizes the importance of legal frameworks in safeguarding forested areas. It ensures that all actions remain within the legal purview and undergo proper consultation. Additionally, the Ministry has urged the state government to enforce stricter monitoring mechanisms to prevent future violations of forest conservation laws.
This latest development highlights the growing need for sustainable urban planning and stronger enforcement of environmental laws. With Hyderabad rapidly expanding, environmental conservation remains a key challenge for policymakers. Experts suggest that collaborative efforts between the government, environmental groups, and citizens are necessary to strike a balance between development and conservation.

As the state government prepares its Fact-Finding Report, all eyes will be on the actions taken against those responsible for violating forest regulations. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of the Union Minister’s directive and ensuring that justice is served in this case of alleged illegal deforestation.
