Hyderabad: Even as the state government cites a shortage of funds, the Revanth Reddy administration has reportedly commenced the construction of an opulent Chief Minister’s camp office, sparking political debate. The project, officially labelled as a “VIP Guest House,” is drawing criticism for its high expenditure and perceived lack of necessity.
Soon after assuming office, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is said to have inspected various existing buildings for use as his camp office but found them unsuitable. Instead, he approved the construction of a brand-new facility in the name of a guest house.
Initially planned to cover 10,000 square feet, the building’s proposed size has now reportedly tripled. Sources indicate that the design has been upgraded to include five-star hotel–style amenities, significantly escalating the project’s cost.
The facility is expected to feature state-of-the-art furniture, advanced utilities, and other luxury provisions. A special expert committee has been constituted to submit a detailed report on costs, modern equipment, and strategies to expedite completion.
In a move attracting further criticism, funds originally sanctioned for the Indiramma Housing Scheme are allegedly being diverted to finance this project. The opposition has accused the government of prioritizing luxury infrastructure over essential public welfare programmes.
