Rahul Gandhi Detained as Opposition Marches to EC Over Vote Theft Row

Tensions flared near Parliament today as police detained Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with several MPs during a protest march. The opposition leaders, under the banner of the INDIA bloc, were marching from Parliament to the Election Commission’s office, demanding stronger measures to prevent alleged vote theft.

Led by Rahul Gandhi, the rally was organized to protest against alleged irregularities in the voters’ list revision in Bihar. The opposition has alleged that large-scale “vote stealing” took place during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and urged the Election Commission to take urgent corrective action.

Delhi Police stated that the opposition leaders had not obtained prior permission to hold the march, which led to the detentions. The situation around Parliament remained tense as security forces were deployed in large numbers to control the crowd.

This protest marks yet another flashpoint between the ruling party and the opposition over the credibility of the electoral process in India.
